Unilever, global leader in the ice cream market, chose Grastim as single partner to implement cogeneration systems in all its European ice cream sites, whereof the biggest is Algida Caivano. In 2008 Grastim funded, designed and installed the first cogeneration plant based on a 5,5 MW gas turbine and 8,0 MW heat recovery steam generator. Steam recovered feeds factory utilities and n° 2 existing ammonia absorption refrigeration plants for temperatures down to -50°C. In 2011 the plant was upgraded with a second gas turbine and heat recovery steam generator, becoming, with its 11,0 MW electrical nominal power, one of the biggest cogeneration plant in southern Italy.
